Actions Against The Police

Occasionally the police overstep their bounds and unlawfully arrest or cause injury to a member of the public. The police have to follow the rules set out in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) which includes only stopping you or arresting you if there are grounds to do so. The police also have to follow their own policing guidelines issued by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC).

The Next Step

The first step would be to make a subject access request to the relevant police force in order to obtain all the information relating to the incident such as body worn footage, custody records and any 999 call information. After reviewing this with you we can then advise how to take your claim forward.
